Following the release of the iPhone 16e as Apple’s latest entry-level model, attention has now turned to the premium iPhone 17 lineup, which is expected to launch later this year. According to a seasoned journalist, Apple is looking to enhance the camera capabilities of the iPhone 17 Pro models, with a focus not just on still photography but also on video recording improvements.
Enhanced Video Recording on iPhone 17 Pro Models
In the latest edition of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman highlighted Apple’s ambition to position the iPhone 17 Pro models as the go-to devices for vloggers and video content creators. The company is reportedly planning a “significant” upgrade, particularly for the high-end Pro models, with a strong emphasis on enhancing video recording capabilities.
Gurman suggests that Apple aims to make the iPhone 17 Pro models a viable alternative to standalone cameras for creators. These improvements are expected to be showcased during the keynote at Apple’s anticipated September event, where the iPhone 17 series will be unveiled.
While official specifications remain unconfirmed, earlier reports indicate that Apple may equip the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max with a 48-megapixel telephoto camera featuring 5x optical zoom—an upgrade from the 12-megapixel camera found in the iPhone 16 Pro models. Additionally, the devices might include a 24-megapixel selfie camera, replacing the 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera on current models.
Recently surfaced renders of the smartphones also suggest a significant design overhaul, with the Pro models potentially adopting a Pixel-style camera layout and dual-toned rear panels.
However, it’s important to remember that the iPhone 17 series launch is still months away, and these leaks should be taken with caution. More details about the devices are likely to emerge in the coming months as the release date approaches.
