The ceasefire in Gaza is on shaky ground as Israel pushes for an extension of the first phase.
Palestinians in Gaza were preparing to observe the Muslim holy month of Ramadan as the second phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was set to begin. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is now seeking to renegotiate the terms of the agreement.
Israel is demanding that Hamas extend the first phase of the ceasefire in exchange for the release of half of the remaining 59 hostages. In the meantime, Israel has once again halted the delivery of aid and supplies to Gaza.
Hamas has accused Israel of breaking the existing deal and is calling on the international community to intervene.
The pressing question now is: Can the ceasefire be saved?
