Anora takes home five Oscars, while No Other Land – a film depicting Israeli settler violence – is awarded Best Documentary.
Anora, a screwball comedy-drama about a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, emerged as the big winner at the 97th annual Academy Awards. The film secured awards for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Editing, and Best Original Screenplay.
The musical Emilia Perez, which led with 13 nominations, won Best Original Song and Best Supporting Actress on Sunday night.
Adrien Brody claimed the Best Actor award for The Brutalist – marking his second Oscar. In 2003, Brody became the youngest Best Actor winner at age 29 for his role in The Pianist. Mikey Madison took home the Best Actress award for Anora.
Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, while Paul Tazewell made history as the first Black man to win Best Costume Design for Wicked.
No Other Land earned Best Documentary Feature for its unflinching portrayal of Israeli settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
