Over 280 Indians Tricked into Illegal Employment in Myanmar Successfully Rescued

New Delhi: A total of 283 Indian nationals, who fell victim to fraudulent job offers in Myanmar, have been successfully rescued and repatriated.

The Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand collaborated with local authorities to facilitate their return. On Monday, an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft transported them back from Mae Sot in Thailand, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The ministry stated that India has been making continuous efforts to secure the release and return of its citizens who were lured into various Southeast Asian countries, including Myanmar, with fake job promises. These individuals were reportedly forced to participate in cybercrimes and other fraudulent activities in scam centers located along the Myanmar-Thailand border.

The government reiterated its earlier warnings, issued through advisories and social media posts, about such illegal schemes. "Indian nationals are once again advised to verify the credentials of foreign employers through Indian Missions abroad and to thoroughly check the background of recruiting agents and companies before accepting any job offers," the MEA said in a statement.
