BREAKING,

The ICC has been investigating the case against Duterte since 2018 regarding his anti-drug campaign, which resulted in the deaths of thousands during his presidency.

Manila, Philippines – The office of the President of the Philippines has announced the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte following a request from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Duterte was taken into custody on Tuesday at Manila airport upon his return from Hong Kong, according to the Philippine government.

Duterte is accused of “crimes against humanity” during his administration’s violent anti-drug campaign.

Duterte’s so-called “war on drugs,” which took place during his presidency from 2016 to 2022, allegedly denied suspects “due process under the law,” as stated in the arrest warrant, and led to the deaths of thousands of people, including children.

In response to reports of his potential arrest, Duterte previously defended his actions, stating that he “did everything…for the Filipino people.”

“If it’s really my fate in life, that’s okay, I will accept it. There’s nothing I can do about it. If I’m arrested, if I’m jailed, so be it,” he said.
