New Delhi: India’s indigenously developed Tejas light combat aircraft successfully test-fired the domestically built air-to-air missile, Astra, on Wednesday. The test was conducted off the coast of Chandipur in Odisha, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The ministry stated, "The test-firing successfully demonstrated the missile’s direct hit on a flying target." It added, "All subsystems performed accurately, meeting all mission parameters and objectives."

The Astra missile, designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is capable of engaging targets at a range of over 100 kilometers. It is equipped with advanced guidance and navigation systems, enabling it to destroy targets with high precision. The missile has already been inducted into the Indian Air Force.

"The successful test-firing marks a significant milestone toward the induction of the LCA AF MK1A variant," the ministry said in a statement.
