An American man who briefly vanished during a family vacation in the Bahamas was found dead on a beach the following morning, according to his family. They suspect foul play in his death after authorities discovered the body of 23-year-old Dinari McAlmont from Maryland on April 6 on Paradise Island in Nassau, just 12 hours after he arrived on the Caribbean island with his parents.
Michelle McAlmont, Dinari’s mother, told Eyewitness News Bahamas that she was "traumatized" after identifying her son’s remains. She claimed he appeared to have been beaten, as initially reported by FOX 5 D.C. The McAlmont family was staying at a resort called The Reef at Atlantis on Paradise Island.
Dinari reportedly left his parents during dinner to retrieve a jacket, which is when he disappeared. Unable to locate him using phone location data, his parents filed a missing person report. The next morning, his body was found on the beach.
Royal Bahamas Police Force Commissioner Shanta Knowles stated that authorities are awaiting the results of McAlmont’s autopsy. The police commissioner did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
In a statement, The Reef at Atlantis expressed deep sadness over the incident: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our guests. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. We are fully cooperating with the authorities as they conduct their investigation."
The U.S. State Department has issued a Level 2 Travel Advisory for the Bahamas, as well as for Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands Antilles, and Turks and Caicos. The advisory warns travelers to "be aware of heightened risks to safety and security."
