Patna: A police officer was injured after villagers allegedly attacked a police team that had gone to arrest drunken men in Siwan, Bihar, where the consumption, sale, and storage of alcohol are banned.

The police team had arrived in Akolhi village on Wednesday to apprehend the intoxicated individuals. During the operation, the officers detained one man and placed him in their vehicle. However, as they attempted to transport him to the police station, a mob of villagers gathered and assaulted the officers, ultimately freeing the detained man.

A viral video captured the incident, showing the mob surrounding the police vehicle and attacking the officer. In the footage, a group of men can be seen pushing, punching, and slapping the officer, with some women and children standing nearby.

This attack follows another recent incident in Rohtas district, where six police personnel, including a woman officer, were injured during a raid. Officials reported that the team was attacked with sticks and stones on Tuesday while attempting to arrest two accused individuals.

Last month, a Bihar police officer lost his life in a similar violent confrontation in Araria district. Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajiv Ranjan Mall, who was leading a team to arrest criminal Anmol Yadav on March 12, sustained a severe head injury during a clash with locals and later died in the hospital.
