Declassified CIA Document Claims Soviet Forces Attacked by UFO
A newly declassified document posted on the CIA’s website has sparked intrigue with claims of an alleged UFO attack on Soviet military forces. The report, which summarizes articles originally published by Canadian Weekly World News and the Ukrainian newspaper Holos Ukrayiny, was first released to the public in May 2000.

The document describes a bizarre incident in which Soviet soldiers reportedly shot down a UFO flying over a military base, prompting a retaliatory attack by extraterrestrial beings. According to the report, the aliens emerged from the wreckage, fused into a single object, and emitted a blinding light that turned most of the soldiers into stone.

"If the KGB file corresponds to reality, this is an extremely menacing case," an unnamed CIA representative was quoted as saying in the report. "The aliens possess such weapons and technology that go beyond all our assumptions. They can stand up for themselves if attacked."

The alleged incident is said to have occurred between 1989 and 1990, with initial reports published in 1993. The document details how Soviet soldiers launched a surface-to-air missile at a low-flying, saucer-shaped spacecraft during military training exercises, causing it to crash near the base.

Eyewitness Accounts of Alien Encounter Eyewitnesses described five short humanoids with "large heads and large black eyes" emerging from the wreckage. The beings reportedly fused into a single object, emitting a loud buzzing noise before bursting into a blinding light.

The report claims 23 soldiers were instantly turned into "stone poles," with only two survivors who were shielded from the light in a shaded area. The remains of the petrified soldiers and the spacecraft were allegedly transported to a secret research base near Moscow, where scientists discovered the soldiers’ molecular structure matched that of limestone. Researchers attributed the phenomenon to an unknown energy source.

Skepticism Over the Claims
Former CIA agent Mike Baker expressed skepticism about the extraordinary details outlined in the report.
"If there was an incident, regardless of its nature, I suspect the actual report doesn’t resemble what has now emerged after multiple iterations," Baker told Fox News Digital.

U.S. Government’s UFO Investigations
The U.S. government routinely investigates UFO sightings to assess potential threats to national security. In 2020, the Department of Defense established the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF) to detect, analyze, and catalog unknown objects.

Baker emphasized that while UFOs are often linked to extraterrestrial life, investigations are primarily driven by national security concerns.
"When aviators encounter something they can’t identify, officials must catalog and analyze it. It doesn’t necessarily mean we’re investigating alien spacecraft, but that’s where people’s minds go," he said.

Declassified Files and Extraterrestrial Speculation
Earlier this year, former President Donald Trump signed an order to declassify decades-old government files related to UFOs. This move has fueled speculation about potential federal cover-ups and the possibility of extraterrestrial encounters.

"A lot of people believe there’s a smoking gun in these files," UFO expert and former U.K. Defense Ministry official Nick Pope told Fox News Digital. "Many suspect the U.S. intelligence community has evidence of extraterrestrial activity. That’s the $64,000 question."

Baker’s Doubts on the Soviet UFO Incident
As for the claims of a Soviet-era alien attack, Baker remains unconvinced.
"I’m sure something’s out there, but I don’t believe aliens landed decades ago, turned Soviet soldiers into limestone, and we’re only now hearing about it," he said.
