People & Power investigates how Israel has further weaponized water in Gaza since the war began and why this constitutes a war crime.

The People & Power team traveled through Gaza just weeks before October 7, 2023, to document Israel’s use of water as a weapon. Even back then, the situation appeared dire.

When a ceasefire was implemented in January of this year, our team in Gaza returned to find the people they had met 18 months earlier.

Israel’s cutting off of external water supplies and systematic destruction of water facilities have reduced the amount of water available to Palestinians in Gaza to as little as 2 liters per person per day. Waterborne diseases are now spreading rapidly through communities.

Thirst Among the Ruins tells the story of Israel’s systematic and targeted destruction of Gaza’s water infrastructure and how this violates international humanitarian law.
