Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a strongly worded letter to FBI Director Kash Patel on Thursday, accusing federal investigators in New York of withholding thousands of pages of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, which she has vowed to make public.
Bondi stated that she had requested the complete Epstein case file prior to Patel’s confirmation as FBI director and had received only about 200 pages—significantly fewer than the documents released last year in a civil lawsuit involving Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former lover and convicted accomplice in sex trafficking.
“I repeatedly questioned whether this was the full set of documents responsive to my request and was repeatedly assured by the FBI that we had received the full set of documents,” Bondi wrote. “Late yesterday, I learned from a source that the FBI Field Office in New York was in possession of thousands of pages of documents related to the investigation and indictment of Epstein.”
Bondi accused the FBI of never disclosing the existence of these files and demanded they be turned over by 8:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28. “The FBI will deliver the full and complete Epstein files to my office, including all records, documents, audio and video recordings, and materials related to Jeffrey Epstein and his clients, regardless of how such information was obtained,” she wrote. “There will be no withholdings or limitations to my or your access.”
The FBI, currently entangled in a lawsuit alleging it failed to properly investigate credible allegations against Epstein decades ago, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Bondi added that sensitive information about victims would be redacted before any public release. She also ordered an internal investigation into the matter and directed Patel to propose “personnel action” within two weeks.
Previously, Bondi had announced that a batch of Epstein-related documents would be released on Thursday afternoon, though it was not expected to contain significant new information.
The letter underscores ongoing scrutiny of the FBI’s handling of the Epstein case, particularly as efforts to uncover more details about his network and client list continue.
