Pennsylvania Man Involved in Car Crash Shoots at Police, Injures Officer

A Pennsylvania man was involved in a car crash on Sunday before grabbing a firearm and opening fire at police, wounding one officer.

Pottstown Police responded shortly after 5 p.m. to a two-car collision at the intersection of Beech Street and North Mount Vernon Street in Pottstown, Montgomery County. According to Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, the man involved in the crash attempted to retrieve a gun from his vehicle, leading to a struggle with officers.

The man then fled on foot to his home on Winding Road as officers pursued him. During the chase, he pulled out a gun and fired at the officers, striking one in the shoulder. The other officers returned fire but did not hit the suspect, who managed to enter a home on Winding Road.

The injured officer was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers from multiple agencies, along with a SWAT team, surrounded the home, and a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents in the Winding Road area, as reported by Fox 29.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., officials announced that a suspect had been detained in connection with the incident. The shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly afterward, according to NBC 10.

The incident remains under investigation, and officials have not yet released the identity of the suspect or the charges he may face.
